055 : Heirloom, Open-Pollinated, or Hybrid?

Episode 55 - Maritime Gardening Podcast

Welcome back to the third season of the Maritime Gardening Podcast! It’s February and we gardeners have seeds on our minds, so I thought I would talk about the difference between heirloom seeds, open pollinated seeds, and hybrid seeds, and speak to the relative merits of each. I also have a new sponsor: Vesey’s seeds, and they have decided to offer a coupon code to my listeners!  The code is: GAVS18, and it applies to all items in their online catalogue at www.veseys.com until the end of 2018. To activate the code you have to order at least one pack of seeds with your order. For more details, listen to the podcast!

    Great episode, brother!

  2. Lisa says:

Thanks for explaining! I’ve been wondering for awhile about the differences.

  3. Bobby says:

Have you ever tried putting iron sulfate out to stop slugs? I don’t add fertilizer to my garden but I’ve tried that with my cabbage and it seemed to work. Great episode and congrats on the sponsorship! I’ll check out the vendor site:)

Thanks and yes, I use that or iron phosphate every year when I have to – in fact I may also have a coupon code for a brand of that (Safers) as well in the near future, so stay tuned!
