I hear many people say that they don’t have time to garden, but I rarely hear people say that they don’t have time to exercise. Here’s the thing: keeping a garden IS exercise; but of course, you get so much more out of gardening than wasting time on a tread mill. Cancel your over-priced, low value gym membership, and have a listen as I talk about all the benefits of keeping a garden!
I agree with you about gyms. I also find that being in my garden really energizes/rejuvenates me after a long day at work. I don’t feel alone – I have so much plant life all around me – I feel the part of the natural world that I am. In the winter I love walking in the woods.
That’s exactly how I feel!
I could never get past the yuck factor of all that strange sweat everywhere. Give me my own clean patch of dirt to roll around in and I’m happy. And fit. : )
Agree. Especially your thoughts about solitude. It was always one of the things that I didn’t enjoy about going to the gym – the crowds of people. COVID made me cancel my gym membership and embrace the garden as my refuge. I don’t know if I’ll ever go back.
I do the same thing. Think of the money you save without that gym membership – and you’ll get all the exercise you can ever want right in your backyard 🙂
