In this episode I talk to Dr, Anne Lichtenwalner from the University of Maine in Orono about raising chickens.
Anne Lichtenwalner is a veterinarian and a researcher at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine. She runs the veterinary diagnostic lab there, and evaluates the health of many kinds of animals, from wildlife to livestock. She has a special interest in birds, and has experience raising chickens, pheasants and ducks (and finches and parrots). She’s presented to many poultry groups in our region, discussing how management impacts their health, and to veterinarians, discussing how they can integrate caring for backyard poultry into their practices.

Great interview. We have had a small flock (4 – 6 hens) for several years. Let them in garden periodically to clean out bugs and slugs and do the weeding.
