114: More Chicken Talk with Dr. Anne Lichtenwalner

In this episode I continue my discussion with Dr. Anne Lichtenwalner about the many cares, concerns and charms of keeping chickens; whether for eggs, meat or the simple joy of their quirky personalities.

Anne Lichtenwalner is a veterinarian and a researcher at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine. She runs the veterinary diagnostic lab there, and evaluates the health of many kinds of animals, from wildlife to livestock. She has a special interest in birds, and has experience raising chickens, pheasants and ducks (and finches and parrots). She’s presented to many poultry groups in our region, discussing how management impacts their health, and to veterinarians, discussing how they can integrate caring for backyard poultry into their practices.
